This original clinker brick, semi-detached home in the leafy suburb of Hawthorn East had many challenges due to its site size and original layout.
The client wanted an industrial feel to the rear space with the optimisation of natural light being the central focus for the design. Large, steel windows specified by the client were designed to fill the entire rear wall allowing for natural light to pour in while achieving the desired look of a warehouse space.
The main living zones connect to a café style courtyard with purpose built joinery providing ample space for the client to entertain outdoors.
All rooms within the existing home were restored and renovated to achieve what was required without taking the focus from the main, open plan kitchen and living.
The project required a Full Town Planning Permit and Building Permit.
