Set in the northern suburb of Brunswick, this Edwardian weatherboard home received a complete renovation. The brief was to completely redesign the existing layout, retaining only the front two rooms and respecting as much of the original structure as possible.
The clients required additional space for the family which meant the two bedrooms for the children were relocated upstairs in the roof area, each with large dormer windows. This allowed for a much larger, open plan living zone downstairs, while also maintaining the generous back garden for the family to enjoy.
By relocating the existing rooms, we were able to create a large entry foyer and hallway that opened up the home and its flow through to the rear of the house.
The cathedral ceilings in the rear living give a great sense of open scale, while large sliding doors with views to the garden open up the interior to create a seamless transition from indoor to out. A floating canopy eave ensures the home is protected from northern sun during summer, while allowing solar penetration during the cooler months.
The project required a Heritage Planning Permit and Building Permit.. Building interiors by The Urban Stylist
